Some solutions deserve to leave your own computer. Here you will find programs born from real tasks, tried out, improved and eventually published.
Their source code is openly available on GitHub. You can see what a program does — and, if necessary, why. Downloading, trying, checking and using it is expressly encouraged.
After all, software rarely gets better by sitting on its creator's hard drive.
Website checks
Checkweb
Checkweb is a graphical application for Linux Mint/Cinnamon that checks websites locally or online. It examines HTML, CSS, links, images, metadata and JavaScript/PHP syntax, among other things. Results can be saved as HTML or JSON reports.
Checkweb supports technical website checks. An automated test does not replace a complete security or accessibility audit. That would be too good to be true.
Network overview
showipmac
showipmac displays local network devices with IPv4, IPv6, MAC address, hostname and OUI vendor. Custom names, saved devices and CSV/JSON exports help keep track of your network.
Discovery covers the selected local network and may be incomplete. MAC addresses can change. Device data is stored locally.
Configuration backups
saveconfig
Catalog configurations, back up original files and verify backups.
Profile ZIPs include selected files, the profile, settings and catalog for restoration after reinstallation. Computer identity helps distinguish a PC from a VM. Existing originals and a recovery journal are retained. Sensitive data is backed up without encryption; keep ZIPs protected outside the computer. Cache and Codex data are excluded.
PC hardware
pcmonitor
pcmonitor displays hardware, devices and RAM details on Linux. Captured information can be exported as a report.
Two launchers are available: pcmonitor without an administrator prompt and pcmonitor – Administrator for extended hardware information. Only the hardware query receives elevated privileges; the interface runs as your user.
